Yesterday, we had our annual Reading Olympics competition, and boy was it a fierce competition! A lot of the teams were neck and neck with points toward the end and we ended up having to have a tie-breaker round to figure out who the 3rd place winner would be.
Ms. Colllins & I were proud of our team, The Pirates, who took 3rd place! I don't have first-hand knowledge of how each team performed, but I can say that all of the teams we faced worked together well and made the competition an exciting one. Congratulations to all!

Musical Compositions
While we were in the music room on Friday listening to a career day presentation, I ran across these compositions from our class on the bulletin board. Did you know your child has been composing music for his/her recorder? What a great skill!
Career Day
Friday was Beaverdam's career day. We enjoyed great weather, a great turn-out, and a packed schedule for the day. Unfortunately, the camera didn't come out until mid-morning, so the pictures you will see do not include our first three presenters.
We heard from an electrician (thank you, Mr. Holloway!), an attorney, a flight attendant, and an environmental engineer. Below are pictures from our visits with a retired army pilot, a secret service officer, a K9 police unit and a SWAT team member.
A big thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who helped BES's career day run smoothly.

Richmond Symphony
Today we had a wonderful morning visit to the Carpenter Center to watch and listen to the Richmond Symphony play. The symphony told the story of Romeo and Juliet in a fragmented format so the kids could all understand how the music complimented (and told) the story.
A big thank you to Mr. Walker and Mrs. Lilly who joined us as chaperones!
What a great way to ease back into school after a few unexpected snow days!
